Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgeries

Endoscopic sinus surgeries (ESS) are now a days done in management of medically non-responsive chronic rhino sinusitis (CRS), nasal polyps, tumors/ cancers of the sinuses and anterior skull base and also decompression of eye ball/ optic nerve.

In these endoscopic surgeries the ENT surgeon uses various endoscopes to remove the disease with the help of microdebrider and coblator equipments to remove the disease from all the sinuses. The purpose of ESS is to remove any obstruction causing prevention of mucosal drainage.  This is required for proper ventilation of the sinuses during breathing. The procedure takes around 2 to 4 hours depending on the extension of the disease.

In cases of tumors of paranasal sinus, nasal cavity and/or skull base cancers the ENT surgeon remove such growths endoscopically, sometimes in collaboration with neurosurgeon, depending upon the extension of the disease pathology.
